Free Expression on Campus

Freedom of expression, as guaranteed under the First Amendment, and academic freedom, as defined by the Laws of the Regents, while distinctly separate concepts, are central to UCCS’s academic mission and underlie our community values of inclusivity and critical thinking. This site outlines UCCS’s steadfast commitment to freedom of expression and academic freedom and highlights relevant policies, programs, and events.

The First Amendment

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peacefully to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
